We are pleased to announce the introduction of the APB Baseball Academy program! The goal of this program is to develop better-skilled baseball players by providing an avenue for players to experience a higher level of coaching and competition, with the ultimate goal of players making their high school teams and beyond.

This program is only open to Agoura Pony Baseball players. Players must enroll in and continue to play in APB’s Spring season.

What is APB Baseball Academy?

The APB Baseball Academy will be a supplemental “pay-to-play” program to our normal Fall and Spring Baseball seasons. The program will start as a weekly training program run by professional coaches with the intent to eventually grow into an Advanced Baseball (ABL)/travel team in the future. The primary goal is to improve players’ skills and get them ready for high school baseball while teaching them age-appropriate baseball skills they can use today. Depending on the interest, skill-level, and available players, age-specific teams may be formed to play in tournaments and/or ABL/travel leagues (on Sundays), in addition to playing in APB’s Spring season. It is a requirement to remain an active APB player to participate and remain in this program.

Who are the Coaches?

APB Baseball Academy practices will be run by the Agoura Baseball Foundation* Baseball coaches: Anthony Chevrier (Head Coach), Chris Warters (Co-head Coach), Chris Whitmer (JV Coach). These coaches have extensive baseball knowledge that has translated into five consecutive Marmonte League Championships.Tournaments and/or ABL/Travel league teams may be coached by one of these coaches, or other qualified coaches.

*APB Baseball Academy is not affiliated with Agoura High School, Agoura Baseball Foundation, or the Las Virgenes Unified School District. Coaches will be added/changed as needed. Participating in this program is NOT a guarantee players will make All Star teams, high school teams, etc.

Who can participate?

The program is for Pinto (some sessions but not all sessions - not included for mid-Aug to mid-Nov 2019), Mustang, Bronco and Pony-aged kids. It is a requirement to remain an active (Spring) APB player to participate and remain in this program.

When will the program run?

The program will start run from June to November (and possibly December and January) of the next year so as to not interfere with our Spring baseball season.

Where will the practices be held?

Practices will take place mainly at Agoura High School, but may also take place at Lupin from time to time.

When are the practices?

Mustang & Bronco practices will be on Tuesdays, 5pm – 7pm. Times and locations may be adjusted based on outdoor conditions.

Bronco & Pony practices will be on Wednesdays, 5pm – 7pm. Times and locations may be adjusted based on outdoor conditions.

What is the cost of the program?

The introductory program cost is $100 per player per month for practices only. All proceeds are paid to the coaches and no monies are retained by Agoura Pony Baseball.  That’s only $12.50 per hour (compared to $80+) for professional coaching. If/when we play in tournaments or an ABL/travel league, then those will be an additional cost TBD at that time.

Do you have to try-out for the program?

To start, the program is being offered on a first-come-first-serve basis. No tryouts. Space is limited to 20 players per group (Mustang/Bronco, Bronco/Pony). Should the demand exceed capacity, then we will look into opening it up to more players. Participating in this first session is no guarantee of participation in future sessions. Should demand exceed capacity, then tryouts may be required to participate in the program.
