Agoura Fights Back to Another Dramatic Victory July 28, 2006
Agoura - 8 Chandler, AZ - 7
Agoura Mustang Allstars beat Chandler, AZ by a score of 8-7 tonight in what was another sensational, come from behind win in game two of the Zone Tournament in Chino Hills, CA.. This time, the drama came in the form of a walk off, two run home run by Bobby Dalbec, his second of the game.
Agoura, who never held the lead in the game, was down 7-3 in the fifth inning. But a single in that inning by Bobby Dalbec, a double by Henry Baker and a walk to Matt Byer, set the stage for Preston Rosemont, whose double down the left field line brought the score to 7-6. The top of the sixth inning was a stunning display of defense by catcher Alex Weiss and shortstop Eric Corsello. With a Chandler runner on third, Weiss made two spectacular plays at the plate, one on a Corsello stab to get the runner at the plate, the other a throw down to second to nail the runner and end Chandlers threat.
That was enough for home team Agoura who came to bat in the bottom half of the sixth inning down one run. With a single to the right field fence by Chase Lambert to start the inning, and one out, the stage was set for Dalbec. He worked the count to 2-2 before he took a fastball high and deep far beyond the centerfield fence for the game winning, walk-off homerun.
The dramatic, come-from-behind victory, the second this week (Agoura came from behind to win the Section Championship against Walnut, CA on Monday) brings Agoura's record to 2-0 in the Zone Tournament. Game 3, between Agoura and Fountain Valley, CA will begin at 7:30p, Saturday, 7/29 to determine which undefeated team advances to the Zone Championship Monday night. The winner will represent the West at the Pony World Series beginning Aug 2. Go Agoura!

With the first three games victorious, Agoura’s Mustang Allstars traveled to Covina to play Walnut, CA in the championship of the Region.
Down 8-1 in the second inning, the never-say-die Agoura Allstars began to chip away and tied the game, 8-8, in the 4th. But Walnut was eager to regain the lead in the 5th to avoid a loss and force the undefeated Agoura team into a second game.
The team of Henry Baker, Jack Barmasse, Matt Byer, Carson Caccamise, Eric Corsello, Bobby Dalbec, Jason Gilliam, Jake Juels, Jack Johnson, Chase Lambert, Preston Rosemont and Alex Weiss gave it everything they had. The next two innings became a battle.
By the 6th, with the score tied, 13-13, the game was forced into extra innings.
In the top half of the seventh inning, Agoura, the home team, held Walnut to no runs. But in the bottom half of that inning, Agoura made it’s move. With two out, the bases loaded and Matt Byer at the plate, the Walnut pitcher walked across the winning run and Agoura became the Champs.
With Region Champions banner in hand, which will fly proudly along with the Section Champs banner at Lupin, the team of Allstars move on to play for the Zone championship beginning tomorrow, July 27, in Chino Hills, CA. The tournament will finish Monday, July 31, with the winner representing the West for the World Series in Irving, Texas on August 2.

The Agoura Mustang A All-Stars beat Hart, 13-9, in the Championship Game July 17 to become the 2006 Section Champs.
It took an all-out team effort to dislodge Hart (the reigning Section champs) on Hart’s home turf. Agoura lost to Hart 9-8 in its first game Friday night, but came back to win three games on Saturday and Sunday to reach the Championship match. The final game was a classic. Agoura jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, but Hart was not shaken. While they came back to within one run in the bottom of the first inning and eventually tied the score,7-7, in the third, Agoura’s All-Stars were not done. Explosive hitting, solid fielding and tenacious pitching prevailed for Agoura, who celebrated their championship victory with their supportive fans after the game.
As the 2006 Section Champs, Agoura’s Mustang A All-Stars bring home the flag that will fly proudly at Lupin. The Team now moves on to compete in the Region Tournament July 20th in Covina. Tuesday's Game Results
Congratulations to our Mustang A All-Stars who came back from an 8 to 1 deficit after 2 innings to win Region 14 to 13 in extra innings. From everyone I have talked to all of the players are "stepping up to the plate" and making a contribution. What is really impressive is that in the last two games the team was losing in the early innings but they battled back to win.

Break out the bleach, cause a pair of White Sox tumbled once more for the Championship title. Agoura White Sox took on the Westlake White Sox for bragging rights in the Mustang American Division. Westlake jumped out early with five runs in the top of the first inning before Danny Cipriano responded with a 2 RBI homer for Agoura. Jake Juels, also on the Agoura team, followed suit with a home run of his own, marking his first Pony homerun ever. Westlake fought a noble battle, holding onto a slim lead until left-handed closer Hayden Irwin shut down the Westlake offense. That was all the Agoura team needed to rally for a hitting streak that eventually earned them the Championship. Needless to say, after an amazing effort by both teams in an heroic match-up the White Sox did win. Congratulations to both teams for a great season.!

The Mustang National Pirates won a hard fought game against the Giants on Tuesday night for the league title that was a lot closer than the final score suggested. Jesse Hile and Jonny Paul of the Pirates and Chandler Schmitt & Alan Saavvedra of the Giants all pitched their way out of bases loaded jams to close out some tense innings for their teams. The Pirates scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead, but from that point on the game turned in to a great pitching duel as neither team could push a run across the plate untill the bottom of the 5th when the Pirates scored two runs thanks to some clutch hitting by Greg Kalbfeld. Evan Zimmet showed once again that he is among the top catchers in the league by throwing out two runners trying to steal. One at second, and one at third with a great tag by Max Solomon to cut short a rally by the Giants. This was a well played game by two fine teams, and good sportsmanship was on display the entire evening. Congrats to both coach Kupfer's Giants and coach Paul's Pirates on a great season.

The semifinals in the Bronco National division between the Mets and the Nationals was everything you'd expect and more. Kevin Marks of the Mets pitched his team to a strong lead but the Nationals refused to quit with strong hitting by Cole Feig, Kyle Sears and a season best 4 for 4 by Brennan Rourke. The Mets closed with a strong performance by Landon Epstein of the Mets who was countered by the Nationals Zach Cohen. The Mets prevailed 18 to 14 and the Nationals wish them good luck in the finals against the Braves.

Just the way things should be. Two Bronco National teams locked in a back and forth struggle with only one team fortunate enough to move on. The Cubs led by coach Schlorf scored first and with timely hitting by Colby Parry and Patrick Burns the Nationals were struggling to keep up. Cole Feig led the resurgence with a towering home run to left field and later finished off the game in the bottom of the seventh with another long drive to the power alley in right to drive in Kyle Sears with the winning run. Patrick Burns and Corey Sainz pitched a strong seven innings for the Cubs and were countered by the Nationals Zach Cohen, T.G. Chinnapi and closing was Kyle Van Beveren. Next for the Nationals a semifinal game against the Mets.

THE PINTO AMERICAN PLAYOFFS BEGAN WITH AN OPENING ROUND THRILLER BETWEEN THE DEVIL RAYS AND THE ORIOLES. IT WAS A CLOSE GAME FOR THE FIRST FOUR INNINGS WITH THE DEVIL RAYS FIGHTING BACK FOR A 5 TO 3 LEAD. COACH ERIK KRAMER TURNED TO JUSTIN "GAS" GASWIRTH WHO STARTED OFF SLOW BUT COACH KRAMER REFUSED TO BUDGE AS JUSTIN CLOSED STRONG WITH SEVERAL STRIKEOUTS. THE ORIOLES FOUGHT BACK IN THE FIFTH INNING WITH CLUTCH HITTING BY MYLES ENGLEHART, IAN SEARS AND MICHAEL RADIN AS THE ORIOLES WERE ABLE TO HOLD OFF THE HARD CHARGING D-RAYS. NEXT STOP THE WHITE SOX.

With the retractable roof not working at Lupin, the Blue Jays faced the Orioles at noon under the blazing sun that produced triple digit heat. Both teams had been playing terrific baseball coming into the game. The Orioles had won 7 of their last 8, while the Blue Jays had won 5 of their last 6 and 3 in a row. A victory by either team would have earned them a 2nd place tie in league. With so much on the line, the teams were ready and eager to play. Once again, the Blue Jays defense and pitching led the way early, in holding the O's scoreless until the 3rd inning. The Jays pushed over a couple in the first, and then 5 more in the 3rd behind a couple of walks and several timely hits, by Chase Lambert, Jason Gilliam, Noah Shearer, Brett Weissberg and John Abate, as these 5 Jays reached base and scored. The O's were paced by Dylan George and Brendon Parks who had 2 hits each. The boys on each team, played hard and gave it their all, but in the end, the Jays won. Congrats to both teams on their fantastic finishes to their seasons. Next step for all teams is the Mustang American tournament, and the Blue Jays want to wish everyone good luck.

To all the young boys of summer who gave it their all on the diamond; to all the moms and dads that donated their time coaching and supervising our kids; to all the board members who made this a banner year for Agoura Pony Baseball; to Nina who stepped up to the plate in the Snack Shack; to all the snack moms for keeping the players happy after the games; to all fans in the stands who cheered on our kids; and to all the little brothers & sisters who patiently waited for the games to end thank you for another wonderful, memorable year of Agoura Pony Baseball. Good luck in the play-offs. We'll be watching.

It was the bottom of the 6th at the Mustang American field at Indian Springs. The sun was fading behind the distant hills and parents were getting antsy. The stalwort Agoura Yankees had broken the 7-7 tie against the Agoura White Sox with 3 runs in the top of the 6th. All they needed was 1 more out to win the game. But the bases were loaded and Bobby Dalbec was standing at the plate. Parents and players alike moved closer to the edge of their seats. The afternoon breeze was stilled by the excitement on the diamond. No matter what happened, both teams had played to their best and both sides were worthy of leaving with one in the "W" column. The pitcher stood tall after receiving the signal from the catcher. Amber sunlight dappled across his calm face. Bobby stood poised, bat at the ready. The game could go either way. And then came the wind up. The pitch.... Does it really matter who won? After all, the boys had fun and it was a beautiful day for baseball. You decide.

The Mustang Blues Jays have continued to display great team defense. While the effort was made by all the Jays, the keys to stopping the Red Sox, were put outs by Brett Weisberg, Noah Shearer, Troy Welin and Eric Jones. The Jays jumped out to an early 5-0 in the bottom half of the 1st inning that was sparked by a 2 RBI triple by Jason Gilliam. However, the Sox did not panic, and settled in behind the pitching of Rosemont, Baker, and Fridstein along with strong defense to only allow 1 more run. The Sox bats came alive in the top of th 6th as they started to mount a rally falling short of the Jays in a well played game.

Congratulations to the players and coaches in Agoura who took first place in both the Pinto and Mustang Division at the Newbury Park Memorial Day Tournament. Two of the four Divisions in the tournament were dominated by teams with players from Agoura Pony Baseball. Nice job boys!
|
The White Sox and the Orioles of the Mustang American Division met for the second time this season in another nail biter finale. But this time it was the White Sox who came out on top. Lead by the determination of Eric Corsello and a handsome triple, the White Sox were able to protect against another dramatic Orioles comeback. Eric sealed the Orioles fate when he made the final out. Everyone gave 110%. It was smiles all around, because everyone wins when you're outside playing America's game.

May 19th brought with it the much anticipated game two between the Bronco National Dodgers and Giants. It was a well played game by both teams with the Giants taking an early lead… However the “Never Give Up” attitude of the Dodgers was alive and well! Those hard fighting Dodgers came back with a vengeance. The entire game was played with incredible class and sportsmanship by both teams and coaches. Both umpires did a spectacular job with all the calls and there were great plays by both teams but ultimately it came down to hitting. The Dodgers got 7 hits while the Giants had 12, giving the Giants the victory. Pitching was a big factor in this game as the Giants had some trouble in the last half of the game. The Giants had to go to their back up pitcher Skyler Stone who made his first pitching appearance of the season for the game save! The Giants pitchers also included Cody Banks, Alex Van Dyke and Sky Bartsch.

In their final game of the season the bronco national division nationals held off a late surge by the dodgers to end their season with a victory. Pitching one inning each were cole feig, michael estrada, brennan rourke, hayden johnson, jake stanton and closing out was marcus friedlander. The dodgers were led with timely hitting and defensive gems by jeremy yarin and logan schwartz. Both team eagerly looking forward to see each other again in the playoffs for another fun game.

Under perfect playing conditions at Lupin, the Blue Jays faced the White Sox in a rematch from week 2. The White Sox jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, behind back to back home runs from Bobby Dalbec and Danny Cipriano. But the Blue Jays keep pace and scored 3 runs in their bottom half to tie the game. The keys to the Blue Jays win was a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Luke Pedroza and timely hits by Brett Weisberg, Chase Lambert, Jeremy Finch, Eric Jones and Hunter Lake. The Jays pitching staff was able to hold the powerful Sox scoreless in the final 3 innings. And once again the defense for the Jays played tough and made several terrific plays that prevented the Sox from a late inning rally. Great effort and sportsmanship was on display by both teams throughout the game.

Alex Weiss 2 HRS over the center field fence at Indian Springs led the Mustang American Yankees of Agoura over the Westlake White Sox 12-8. In Weiss' 2 other at bats 1 went over the left field fence foul by 10 feet and his final at bat his rocket was caught at the center field fence, just falling short of tying Robert Stock's 3HR in a game APB Record. Jake 'Lightning' Cooper was 3 for 3 and a walk for the Yankees who are now 9-5 and 1 tie.

The boys of summer arrived a little early this year! On Sunday May 21st, the Shetland National League All-Stars took the field representing their division. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be selected, as the youngest player on the roster I’m here to represent my Cubs in the best way possible” exclaimed Trent Turquand during a pre-game interview. All the boys played extremely well on both sides of the field, congratulations to all the players and their families on an exciting day of baseball!
|
The Mustang Blue Jays team played a perfect game of team defense against the Tigers. The pitching staff of Chase Lambert, Dylan Burke and John Abate combined to throw a 2 hitter. They were helped out by the error free defense led by the outfield of Jeremy Finch, Hunter Lake and Eric Jones, who each had an ESPN highlight reel sliding catch to stop the Tigers from a rally. Great team effort boys.
